In-use Test:
This beanie from Sealskinz has a three layer construction; the inner layer is a soft feeling, polyester fleece and there's a Porelle® membrane sandwiched between this and the knitted acrylic outer. It has a plain, rather understated look with only a small logo on the front.
According to Sealskinz' sizing info, I should have been wearing the L/XL (my head circumference is 60cms). As luck would have it, the beanie I had to try out was an XXL. This was an almost perfect fit - so the sizing on this little hat is definitely on the small size.
I've been wearing it now over the last few weeks in some cold and wet/snowy weather (temp around freezing) as well as in rather warmer conditions (about 10 degrees C). Leaving aside the slightly crinkly noise, in the cold, wet weather it's been extremely comfortable. It's most definitely waterproof, pretty windproof and warm. It's fitted well, and stayed put. The only small oddity has been a slight tendency to 'balloon' slightly at the crown. In warmer conditions, during high energy periods I found that I was starting to feel a little sweaty in it so it seems that the 'breathability' feature does need a temperature gradient to kick in.
Probably not the best for higher energy use in warm weather, Sealskinz' beanie has nonetheless now become my favourite hat for cold, wet weather walking. Sizing is a little small - so go for a larger size than you might otherwise consider

• I find it very warm ,waterproof and surprisingly wind proof,it feels very robust ,but . I do find that when it is over your ears ,it's great for keeping them wam ,but reduces noise level massively ,so chatting can be difficult especially if windy also care has to be taken when near / on roads, otherwise I wouldn't be without it,one of my better buys.
