In-use Test:
I must admit I was initially a little sceptical about the value of a Powerpax battery caddy. I never go out walking without spare batteries for my gps, digital camera etc. but have always just kept them in a plastic bag in the main body of my rucksack. Surely this was just going to be like carrying those batteries - only slightly heavier?
However - once I'd had a go with a 4 AA caddy I think I began to see the point.
Firstly - a caddy of 4 batteries was much easier to locate in my bag. It's heavier than single batteries so tended to sink down to the bottom of my pack. So finding all 4 batteries is quick - important when it's cold, wet and/or dark and you're scrabbling around looking for your torch's spare batteries.
The caddies also keep the terminals away from each other so there's no risk of accidental discharging.
I also found it useful as a means of organising my re-chargeable batteries to separate the spent ones from the ones that were fully charged and ready to go. Again, this was quite a time-saver.
I could also get the batteries in and out with just one hand, so I didn't have to put my camera on the ground to make the battery change.
As for the weight issue - I didn't even notice.
If you're a regular hiker who uses re-chargeables for all your electronic wizardry - I'm sure you'll find a Powerpax battery caddy useful. (If you are a friend/partner of someone who walks a lot then these would make a great 'stocking filler'/small present!)
