In-use Test:

We tested the Vango Rechargeable Camping Lantern on a couple of camping trips and found to be a great all rounder. The light is bright and the controls are large, positive and easy to use.

The light has two settings, bright and er . . not so bright and on full charge it gave about 8 hours of continuous light on the highest setting before beginning to fade. Furthermore, the light is cool to the touch.

The battery can be recharged from the mains or from an adapter that fits into a car's cigarette/cigar lighter. We also found that even when the light's battery is completely flat, you can get instant light simply plugging the light in (to mains or car battery).

The fluorescent bulb is easy to extract and replace when needed, there is a robust carrying handle and the main/car battery adapter socket has a rubber cover to keep it clean.

One fantastic feature is a remote control which means you can turn the light on and off whilst tucked up nice and cosy in your sleeping bag. Who said camping means roughing it?

Minor gripes? Because the light is fluorescent the light itself can be a bit harsh, the 1.3m (4 feet) mains and car adapter leads could be a lot longer to enable recharging and use at the same time and the carrying handle could do with a hook to attach it the eyelet in roof of your tent (if you have one).

Buying Advice:

Great all rounder and one of the products that once used you'll wonder how you ever managed to do without it. And the reachargeability makes it good for the planet too!
