In-use Test:
Like most walkers, I'm always on the look-out for tasty additions to my lunch-box - so didn't mind at all being asked to try out the 9Bar.
9bar is handmade using natural ingredients by a craft bakery, Wholebake, who are based in Wales.
On consulting the ingredients list I can see that the 9 bar is packed full of a variety of seeds which I know contain high levels of Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids plus a number of other minerals and vitamins. There's also a protein source in the form of dehulled hemp. In the Peanut variant that I was trying, I also noted that overall there's about 22 gms of Fat (including the Omega 3) and about 284 cals in the bar which is 50gms in total. So - yes a relatively high fat/calorific content.
The bar itself isn't really very sticky at all. In fact the taste of the Peanut 9Bar is if anything more savoury than sweet - I must say I really liked it. It was also a nice change to be eating seeds rather than the grain which is the basis of the plethora of cereal bars that are around these days.
I had a stash with me on a recent trip to Cumbria and a 9Bar certainly provided a much needed energy boost on long tramps over some exceedingly wet and boggy ground.
The 9Bar provides a pretty healthy mix of seeds and nuts in a very reasonably priced bar. Approved by the Coeliac and Vegetarian societies, they may be a good alternative for those with some food intolerances. Available in six variants, they are a great alternative to cereal bars (or even chocolate!) for a hungry walker.
