In-use Test:
Sealskinz Ultragrip are close fitting gloves that enable you to retain a certain amount of dexterity while wearing them eg when opening belts and rucksacks. They are also nice and 'grippy' for holding on to walking poles or bicycle handlebars .
I've worn them primarily on cooler and windier Autumn days and found that my hands were just about warm enough. Whilst my hands do tend to be on the cold side, I think most people would need to wear them with thermal liner gloves in cooler, Winter temperatures. The breathability was ok when the external temperature was cooler than my hands - but when this was not the case on warmer days, my hands started to get quite clammy.
The degree of waterproofness was a bit more of a quandary. I found that in light, short bursts of rain - they were ok. However, in heavier rain the inside of the gloves started to get damp - and my hands soon became really quite cold. A perhaps more extreme test was when, during one of my regular walking trips in the Peak District, I had to retrieve something from a stream .... when they did let in water.
The Sealskinz Ultragrip gloves are comfortable gloves for windier Autumn temperatures - but I think you'd need to wear them with liner gloves for Winter conditions. They appear to function adequately as waterproof gloves in lighter, intermittent rain but not so in anything more challenging so I don't think you could rely on them as a way of avoiding wet (and therefore cold) hands when walking in wet weather.
