In-use Test:

I have on occasion had a day's walking that was completely ruined by the appearance of a hot spot and then a blister. Whilst recently I've managed to avoid this miserable experience to a large extent by making sure I'm wearing decent walking socks, over the summer months I've had problems with my favourite walking sandals. For this reason, I was very interested to have an opportunity to try out the Engo Blister patches.

Rather than going on your foot, the Engo patches are actually attached to the inside of your shoe or boot. The patches themselves are very slightly cushioned and have a white backing that you peel away in stages as you apply the patch to your boot or shoe. Once in place, the adhesion of the patch increases as your foot presses against it and the patch itself provides a low friction layer between your skin and your shoe.

It's a simple idea but really does seem to work. I was able to wear my favourite sandals again and the patches I applied about two months ago are still in place and working despite my wearing the sandals frequently - even in rain.

Buying Advice:

Engo Blister Patches (which come with a no blister guarantee!) do seem to be an effective way of preventing hot spots or of coping with a blister once formed. Because they stay in the shoe or boot, you don't have to keep applying protection at the start of every walk - so you'll need to take this into account when comparing the price with that of alternatives. A useful product to keep in your backpack 'just-in-case'.
