The North Face kickstarts Ben Nevis footpath re-development
The European General Manager of The North Face, Topher Gaylord visited Lochaber on Wednesday 28th May to hand over a cheque for £10,000 to councillor Neil Clark, chairman of The Nevis Partnership.
Topher was accompanied by the UK Sales and Marketing Director, Phil Ham, who was instrumental in working with the Lochaber Mounain Access Group to assemble the funding support of £10,000 each year for 5 years.
This fund will be specifically used for the improvement of the path by the Alit a'Mhuilinn to the North Face of Ben Nevis and the Nevis Partnership will use it to attract further funding from others to increase the scope of the work.
Mr Gaylord said "Our company has a history of investing in outdoor projects such as this in the United States. We are delighted to have been invited to join in this partnership venture and hope that our funding will generate more from others. This will be our first award of this type in Europe and nowhere could be more appropriate than a new access to the North Face of the Ben itself!"
The Lochaber Mountain Access Goup is a member of the Nevis Partnership and its secretary, Alan Kimber, said "We are very pleased to have been able to bring this funding to the Partnership, through our good links with The North Face and look forward to an early start on the path".
Councillor Clark said "The North Face of Ben Nevis is internationally known and it is very appropriate that our first real funding has come from the company of the same name, known around the world for quality products. It is our aim to improve the Nevis area to reflect its international importance."
