New Educational DVD from BCA
BCA, the US snow safety equipment suppliers have joined forces with filmmaker Teton Gravity Research (TGR) to create a state of the art beacon training DVD. The DVD aims to educate people into the basic safety and searching techniques used by professionals in the backcountry.
The 20-minute film entitled Tracker 101:Basic searching with digital avalanche beacons, is hosted by TGR lead guide Jim Conway and was filmed in Haines, Alaska. Available directly from BCA the educational DVD firstly takes you through the introduction to safe backcountry travel techniques with the emphasis on avoiding avalanches all together.
It then takes the viewer through the primary, secondary and pinpoint phases of a Transceiver search, continually using visual aids. Conway concludes the DVD with indicators to efficient probing and shovelling techniques. Once the film has finished the viewer can choose from a menu of animated tutorials on more advanced search techniques. These include lessons on electromagnetic flux lines, basic multiple burial searching using the “three-circle method”, and advanced multiple burial searching using the Tracker's special mode.
