In-use Test:
Kathmandu's Tiber is a conventionally styled, leather hiking boot which uses their own proprietary liner, NGX®.
There's a very good level of both longitudinal and lateral stiffness, good 3mm deep lugs on the soles with generous padding around the ankle and in the sole system.
There are no half sizes so I was wearing a half size larger than is my usual - the fit, though, was fine. The lacing system is robust and worked well and, once on, the boots have been really rather comfortable. My feet were held well in place and - over the grass/mud/hard asphalt terrain I've used them on so far - the support was good. There's also good protection at both toe and heel.
I've been wearing them during some hot and humid conditions. They've kept water out but they are warm and I do have (admittedly more expensive) boots that are more breathable.
There's a rubberised bumper all around the outside of the boot which will protect the upper from wear and tear. However, after relatively few 'outings' the inside of the ankle cuff is starting show some abrasion damage to the lining.
Kathmandu's Tiber is a relatively inexpensive, lightweight, 3 season walking boot with some good technology in the all important sole unit. However, because our tests showed signs of wear and tear after only a few outings you might consider other (almost certainly more expensive) options if you are a very regular visitor to the high mountains.

• I purchased my second pair a month before Kathmandu's store closes in High Street Kenaington and their whole operation left there shores. They are the best boots I have ever has for walking in the UK. They are robust, comfortable, easy to lace and clean. I could fo on but my main question is about buying a new pair without mail order form New Zealand which seems a big hassle. Does anyone know of outdoor stores in the UK that still stock them.
