The Tornado is from Karrimor's mulit-footwear sport collection. The manufacturer suggests (rather ambitiously, I think) that the Tornado is suitable 'for a range of outdoor activities from scrambling to a gentle stroll and everything in between' . I've worn them for some low level walking during some late summer, rainy Cheshire weather.
They are an attractive looking, flexible, mid height boot. (There is also a lower cut option available.) Although there's some protection at the heel, there's not much at the toe. The quality of the overall finish looks good although there is quite a lot of stitching on the upper which may become areas of wear with extended use. The ankle cuff, tongue and sole are all nicely padded.
The Tornados are a relatively wide boot - although not close, the fit on me was ok; lengthwise they were pretty well true to size.
Once on, they've been comfortable over primarily grass, mud and asphalt. The 2 mm lugs on the sole provided good grip over this terrain but I could feel sharper stones and rock. My feet were quite warm but they did keep out the rain during any number of short but thundery showers that have been a feature here recently.
To be honest, at around this price, I would normally look for a Vibram sole on a boot even for low level walking. That having been said, the Tornados, built using Karrimor's own Windette outsole, have been ok so far on grass/mud/asphalt - I'll report back on how well it wears.
Karrimor's Tornados are a comfortable boot for Spring/Summer walking on firmer, level paths that are not particularly steep. You'll need to consider boots with more ankle support and a more robust sole to tackle those Wainwrights.
May be better suited to people who need a broader fitting.
