In-use Test:

The Impulse Pro Texapore O2+ Mid M Walking and Trekking Boots from Jack Wolfskin are a substantial piece of kit. At 1460g they are on the heavy side for walking and hiking boots (though not the heaviest boots we have tested). With this in mind I tested these boots in the wet and mud of the Forest of Bowland and on a long mountain hike in the Lake District.

The soles are thick and robust and are extremely stiff. As a result I found they offered plenty of protection to the soles of my feet on rough ground. The deep lugs meant I had good grip on all kinds of terrain from wet grass and mud to dry rock.

The front toe box is large and has good stiff walls with a flexible top giving good protection to my toes while allowing them to move. But this means the lacing systems starts further up the boot preventing refined tightening at the lower end - but if you get a pair that fit properly this should not be a problem.

When it comes to the fit, I found these boots to be a bit on the large side and I needed to wear two pairs of thick walking socks to compensate. Fine in winter but could be uncomfortable on hot sunny days in the high mountains.

The laces supplied are long enough and felt strong and secure. A locking eyelet enabled me to tighten the bottom half of the boot and lock it off before tightening the rest of the boot round my ankle. The cut of the boot is high and there is lots of padding on the inside. I found this provided lots of support to my feet and my ankle area in particular.

Breathable and waterproof, the Impulse Pro Texapore O2+ Mid M Walking and Trekking Boots from Jack Wolfskin are a solid, reliable and dependable - perfect for long treks in the hills and mountains. Check the sizing though.
