In-use Test:
The Regatta T430 daypack we tested was the 30 litre version (25 litres with compression system closed) and it is just about big enough for a full-day hike in the high lakeland fells. Ideal for shorter/half-day walks.
Main Compartment: Easy to access - zip extends for about 2/3 rds of the overall circumference. Long enough 'tassels'. Only one compartment so small/ important items can get 'lost' in bottom. Storm flaps adequate.
Pockets: 3 Mesh pockets: 2 side mesh pockets can each take 1 litre drink container but offer no securing system for bottles. Back pocket can take folded OS map but is obscured if back mesh utilised. Adjustable mesh helmet/clothing holder.
Walking Poles/Ice-axe Holder: Yes - two. Side positioned so access to pockets is unrestricted
Hip Belt: Quite narrow and unpadded. However, remained comfortable throughout test.
Shoulder Straps: S-shaped shoulder straps with good quality padding. Remained comfortable throughout test.
Chest Strap: Yes. No system of securing trailing material which can flap around in wind.
Load Compression: Achieved by means of a zipped compartment. When closed, provides suitable stability when sack is not full. Can only be open or closed so less flexible than load compression straps.
Back System: No internal frame so lightweight. Flexible internal man-made material bends to back shape when pack is worn. Material returns to 'flat state' when pack removed. Combined with good padding (see below) this system provided high degree of comfort and good ventilation throughout test.
Fit: Thick moulded padding gives good comfort and creates air channel. Provided high degree of comfort and good ventilation throughout test.
Material: 600D polyester fabric.
Waterproof Cover: Lightweight integral water resistant cover accessed via zip at base of pack gives limited water protection. Large enough to encompass pack and small amount of kit attached to outside.
Other Features: Two reflective patches on back are useful for being seen when walking on roads at night. Could do with front reflective patches though. Lifting handle.
The Regatta T430 is a mid to low priced day pack offering good comfort & ventilation - but the Zip compression system and lack of compartments restricts flexibility.
