Features to Note:

In-use Test:

Size: The Craghoppers CHT020 has a 20 litre capacity which is a bit on the small side for serious hill walking. (Not enough room to take lunch, something to drink, something warm to put on AND something waterproof). OK for low level short walks though.

Main Compartment: See above. Single half moon zip extends 2/3rds circumference. No internal compartments so small items get 'lost' at bottom of pack. Excellent Storm flaps covering zip. Good zip tassels.

Pockets: One external pocket at back. Not big enough for a OS map. Helmet/clothing mesh. No drink container pockets.

Walking Poles/Ice-axe Holder: No

Hip Belt: Wide and padded at rear, thin and unpadded at front. Remained comfortable throughout test.

Shoulder Straps: Quite thick and well padded. Remained comfortable throughout test.

Chest Strap: No

Load Compression: None.

Back System: Flexible internal man-made material with fixed metal strip bends to back shape when pack is worn. Combined with good padding, this system remained comfortable throughout the test.

Fit: Well padded and shaped to provide good degree of ventilation.

Material: 600 Denier texturised polyester. 3 year guarantee.

Waterproof Cover: No.

Other Features: Employs Craghoppers' own 'Dynamic Balance' system to 'even-up' uneven loads. This pack not big enough for this to be effective (besides a 'well packed' pack should always be evenly balanced. If its not - repack it.) Flow-motion system ineffective on this size pack.

Buying Advice:

The Craghoppers CHT020 backpack is a well padded comfortable pack - but is expensive and too small with not enough pockets for a day on the fells.
