GoLite VO24 Day Pack Day Pack
Product Review & Walking Gear Test
VO24 Day Pack Day Pack Vital Statistics: Colours: Weight: SRP: |
GoLite says:"The VO24 is just as great on day hikes as it is in 24 hour adventure races, thanks to durable Velocity fabric in the main body and spacer mesh in the back and shoulder straps. The adjustable sternum strap has a built-in whistle. There's plenty of room for storage in the large front pocket, two side angled pockets, and bellowed pockets on the hip belt. Though it only weighs 1 lb 7 oz (600g), the VO24 is definitely a heavyweight when it comes to hauling! Imported."

In-use Test:
The GoLite VO24 Day Pack is small enough to scrunch up and have at the bottom of a larger backpack for when you need a super light weight day pack.
Overall I thought the fit (I'm female, 5'8'' and slim) and functionality is very impressive.
The shoulder straps and sternum straps both have a good range of adjustability. I found the paneled back and the padded shoulder straps to be very comfortable throughout the day. The narrowness of the back pack meant it was easy to swing my arms without any obstruction.
The main compartment is accessed easily via waterproof zips and there are compression straps on the front for increased stability when the pack is not full.
There are two zipped pockets on the belt for items such as spare Camera/GPS batteries, sun-screen, car-keys or anything that you want to get at easily when on the go. There's also a large front mesh pocket plus 2 loops for attaching walking poles and/or an ice axe.
My only minor gripes were that the hydration pack compartment is on the small side - if your hydration unit is more than 140cms wide then you'll struggle to fit it in. Also - the sternum strap includes a built-in whistle (which is great) but it is upside down!
If you're looking for a really light-weight daypack for use in Spring or Summer then this really is worth a close look.
