In-use Test:

Karrimor's Kodiak has an easy-to-access main compartment that is closed via a toggled draw string; it's nice and easy to open this with gloved hands. There's the usual lid on the pocket plus a large, shallow pocket that runs down the front of the daypack; the complement of pockets is finished off with two side mesh pockets. So overall a good combination of storage options for both the bits & pieces you want to access quickly/frequently (hat, gloves, snacks, gps) and the stuff you'll probably need to get at during stops.

The back system is fairly simple and doesn't adjust so the only option for customising the fit is by adjusting the shoulder strap length. I'm 5'8'' and the fit on me was fine.

The padding on both shoulder straps and waist belt is quite minimal but at least it didn't compress too much; overall I found the Kodiak to be quite comfortable with my standard winter, day walk 'load'. I did think, though, that it sat quite closely to my back; fortunately there are raised areas on the back which did allow some air ventilation but I think I might get quite hot during warmer weather.

I did quite like the waterproof cover! There's a small clip for attaching it to the body of the backpack plus there's a draw-string adjustment so it's possible to get a good fit. (I have several daypacks and backpacks where this isn't possible; a waterproof cover operating in 'drogue parachute mode' is greatly annoying not to mention being quite hazardous!)

Buying Advice:

Karrimor's Kodiak 30 is a no-frills daypack at a value price for winter walking or if - like me - you like the additional capacity over and above the standard 25 litre daypack size for all year round walking.
