GPS and Apple Mac Computers
Q. I have a handheld GPS but can't use digital mapping because Garmin don't support Mac computers. Am I able to download your GPS waypoints to my Mac computer or are they specifically for PCs? Have any of your members come across this problem with digital mapping and Mac computers and, if so, have they found a solution/have any suggestions?
Mike Mcennerney, Wimborne
A. Our GPS Waypoints are supplied as a text file and are not platform specific - so they can used on both Macs and PC's.
However, the software (GPSU) we recommend you use to upload them from your computer into your GPS is PC only.
Some people have suggested MacGPS Pro and we were sent a Demo of the software but as yet have been unable to get it to produce anything useful (but we will keep trying!).
If you are planning to use your GPS a lot and want to download/upload lots of waypoints then there are plenty of PC emulators available that allow you to run PC software on a Mac - Apple themselves produce one called Boot Camp.
If you plan to download only a few waypoints or want to try it out first, all the GPS waypoints (and often a few extra) are printed on each walk PDF (where indicated) and it is very quick and easy to input them by hand - particularly if you wait until you are at the start of your walk.
Hope this helps
