Wheelchair Access in the Yorkshire Dales
Q. Hi
I am trying to find out information on walks in the Yorkshire Dales that are accessible by electric scooter.
I would need paths that are relatively flat with no obstacles such as stiles but they don't need to be that smooth or dry. Old railway lines are usually suitable.
I have ms but am keen to get out into the countryside with several able bodied and keen walkers.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.?

A. If you can use landrover tracks, in Swaledale, you can get a long way on good, fairly level tracks from Surrender Bridge and also on the West side of Gunnerside Gill, there's a good track which leads high on to the fell - no locked gates or anything although its a bit steep for the first half a mile or so.
There's also good tracks South of Grinton/Reeth.
In the South, there's a nice network of lanes around Clapham/Auswick/Crummackdale
Many of the "white roads" have been trashed by off-roaders, unfortunately - eg Mastiles Lane.
The Dales isnt well blessed with old railway lines, though there is one in Teesdale which forms part of the Teesdale Way around Cotherstone (OK, I know its not the Yorkshire Dales), and there's miles and miles of very nice railway paths in Co Durham.
