GPX Files downloaded to my Garmin Etrex Vista HCX set to OSGB National Grid
Q. I have a Garmin Etrex Vista HCX set to OSGB National Grid and have noticed that the GPX route files waypoints are in Latitude & Longitude. Will the GPS work with these files with the Etrex on that setting (ie: will the GPS automatically translate the data) or will I have to reset the GPS to Latitude & Longitude?
Richard Hall,
A. You must have your GPS Device set to Position Format = British Grid and Map Datum = ord srvy GB.
This is the the Datum used on all British Ordnance Survey Walking Maps and all go4awalk.com Walk Route Maps.
Whilst our GPX Data is in Lat/Lon (Latitude and Longitude), your Garmin Etrex Vista HCX GPS Device will automatically translate the data from Lat/Lon (Latitude and Longitude) back into the UK National Grid enabling you to match your position read out on the GPS screen to the Ordnance Survey Map in your hand.
Hope this helps . . .
