GPS: Track up or North up?
Q. In navigating a route on your GPS during a trek such as the Coast2Coast, is it best to set the GPS to "track up" or "north up"?
Phillip Ruder, Reno, Nevada USA
A. When you look at a map, what direction is up? North, so when you want to reference a map and compare it to the GPS, it looks the same. A lot of people disagree, but try it and you will probably agree. There is a big discussion when flying planes about which is better. A few of us agree that North up is the best way to go. Because it makes sense. It helps you keep your bearings.
