Walks without Sheep
Q. I am a keen hill walker and would like to take my 2 year old Golden Retriever with me.
I would not take her where there may be sheep.
Is there any way I can find out if there are sheep in an area while planning my route?
Linda Smith, Edinburgh
A. Hi Linda, I have a lurcher who goes frantic when he sees sheep - so I understand your question and would love some suggestions too! Last year I did the long distance path 'Sandlings Walk' in suffolk - a really lovely walk through lots of heath and woodland, with very few sheep along the way. It was bliss. I also walk a lot in the forestry around mid Wales. Any one else know of areas where there are fewer sheep? Jac

A. One of my walking pals often brings his dog and he just keeps it on one of those variable length leads. In clear fields he has a good run and sniff around (the dog that is not my pal) and whenever we come across a field with sheep he just reels him in and keeps him close.
The dog doesn't seem to mind.

A. Have you tried your local park?
