What does gw136 stand for?
Q. What does gw136 stand for on your web site as in walks gw136 / gw153 / gw198.
Would love to know as I am planning to do a scramble on Snowdon which is the best route to do?
Neil Preston, Nantwich
A. The letters at the start of each walk refer to the county in which the walk starts (based on the county boundaries circa 2001).
In this case 'gw' refers to the welsh county of Gwynedd (which is pronounced Gw-inn-eth). The 136 is just the number of the walk and does have any other meaning.
See this link Climbing Snowdon for more information about routes up Snowdon, some photos from the mountain and what to to take and wear.
Hope this helps
