GPS Waypoints for which Pennine Way?
Q. Hi, I am undertaking the Pennine way in June and I'm therefore interested in the GPS Waypoints that you have to offer for the route.
Would it be possible for you to provide me with the exact route that your way points take as I understand that there are a number of slight variations to the route along the trail?
Many Thanks
Tom James
A. Our GPS Waypoints for the Pennine Way follow the Official Pennine Way National Trail and the only variation is the diversion into Hawes (if indeed that is a diversion - it would difficult to find anywhere else to spend the night!)
Alfred Wainwright's (now long out-of-date) book does mention a choice of routes off Black Hill in The Peak District. He called these 'The Main Route' and 'The Wessenden Alternative'.
For the last 20 years or so 'The Wessenden Alternative' has been adopted as the official route (it is prettier and less bogy) and although the other (now defunct) 'Main Route' has recovered considerably from the boggy morass it use to be - it unlikely to ever be reintroduced as the official route.

Hope this helps
