Cycling on Footpaths
Q. I am trying to take my children cycling on the trails and footpaths around my area to learn [sic] them to ride safely without the dangers of the roads, however I cannot find ANY maps of footpaths and trails.
I have taken them out a few times on the trails I know but when the path comes to a road I don't know where to go to continue the ride so we have to turn back the way we got there .
IS there a program like AUTOROUTE where you put where you are and where you want to go and it shows you a route by path and trail ??
Andy Arnold, Wombwell , Barnsley
A. Footpaths and Bridleways are clearly marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer Map (1:25 000 scale) for your area - a footpath is marked as a black dotted line and a bridleway as a green dashed line.
Wombwell near Barnsley is on Ordnance Survey Walking Map Explorer 278 Sheffield and Barnsley.
Please note: While you and your children are allowed (and encouraged) to cycle on a bridleway - you are not permitted to cycle on a footpath.
Hope this helps
