Walking The Struggle near Ambleside?
Q. I am going to the Lake District for the weekend and want to repeat a walk I did a few years ago.
It started from Ambleside and began with a gentle ascent through a valley. There may have been a bridge before the valley? There was a steep ascent up to the right to a flattish area with a 360 degree view. There was a descent which ended up coming out through a gate onto The Struggle and a walk down the road back into Ambleside.
Can you help?
Maria Miles, Hartlepool
A. The Struggle is the name given to the final steep section of road onto the Kirkstone Pass North East of Ambleside.
The 360 degree view you experienced was probably from the top of Red Screes.
To walk Red Screes from Ambleside see Walk c102 Red Screes from Ambleside
For alternative walks from Ambleside see Walks from Ambleside
Hope this helps
