Walking in The Mourne Mountains
Q. Hi - I am off to Northern Ireland in a few weeks time to go to Newcastle and the Mountains of Mourne. I wondered if you had any knowledge of good walks for the area?
I am aware of Slieve Donard but wondered if there were any others I should try.
Tim Kirk, Nottingham
A. Slieve Donard is the highest mountain in The Mourne Mountains, the highest mountain in Northern Ireland and the 19th highest mountain in Ireland.
Whilst you are in the area you might want to consider climbing/walking up Slieve Commedagh, 767m (2517ft), Chimney Rock Mountain, 656m (2153ft), Cove Mountain 655m (2150ft), Slieve Corragh, 640m (2101ft), and/or Slieve Beg 590m (1936ft).
Hope this helps
