Linear Walks in The Lake District
Q. Hi there
We are a couple that have heard a great deal on the Lake District walks but struggling to find a 2/3 day walk that takes us from place to place rather than just a single centre.
Happy to self guide and stay in budget accommodation or B&B's.
Pretty fit - moderate to hard walks OK.
If you could point us in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated

A. I've just done a 3 day walk across the Lake District. 1st day train to Ravensglass on the west coast. 8 mile walk to Eskdale (stayed at Woolpack inn - v good). 2nd day Eskdale to top of Scarfell Pike, then across fells to Langdale (stayed at Old Dungeon Gyll hotel - v good again) About 12 miles. 3rd day to Tarn Howes, Coniston, Grizedale and then to Windermere. About 17 miles.

A. Why not connect together half of one of our circular routes with half of another one of our circular routes to form a single linear route that will take you from one place to another?
For example you could follow
- c247 from Ambleside up Fairfield
- c266 from Fairfield down to Grasmere
- c215 from Seatoller up Scafell Pike
- c111 from Scafell Pike down to Wasdale Head
and then
or
and then
If you look at this interactive map of LR090 Penrith & Keswick, Ambleside you can see how easy it is to do.
One piece of advice though - book your accommodation well in advance - the Lake District gets very, very busy.
Hope this helps
