Ridge Walks and Dogs
Q. I was wondering if you could help me.
I have just got into walking and subscribed to this excellent website and was wondering if the following walks were suitable for dogs . . .
c104 Orrest Head and Troutbeck from Windermere c213 Helvellyn from Glenridding c144 Sergeant Man from Grasmere
In fact any walks which aren't suitable for dogs would be eaiser perhaps. I was just thinking that if I can walk it surely they would be able to no trouble as they are both young dogs.

A. The only walks in the Lakes that might be unsuitable for dogs in this respect are anything up Striding Edge (Helvellyn)
- and anything up Sharp Edge (Blencathra)
(NB. All these walks up Sharp Edge include an easier alternative on the pdf).
Both are narrow arete's requiring some scrambling and keeping both hands on the rock and controlling a dog at the same time might prove difficult.
Further, dogs don't seem to be aware of any drop and might jump off by mistake.
Having said that - I have seen dogs on both - though on Sharp Edge the dog was roped to his/her master (or was that the other way round?)
Hope this helps
