Walking and Hiking Boots suitable for Crampons
Q. I will shortly be buying some new walking boots.
The type of walking I do is low level but with some fell walking, last New Year when in the Lake District the conditions were VERY icy underfoot and I found it difficult to stand up let alone walk!
Please advise me on Boots and the possible use of crampons in icy conditions. I have sought advice from a reputable shop in the Peak District and they advise a B1 boot suitable for fixing a crampon, the Boot was considerably heavier than the present Boot (Wainwright) that I have and I do wonder if I will be able to get on with it and the higher ankle support that it has.

A. You'll find some guidance on selecting walking boots on our Boots Gear Guide. Its in pdf format so you can download it and take down to the shops with you (and you don't have to be a subscriber - this is just one of the many items go4awalk.com supplies for free). Click on the the Gear Guide tab under the 'Walking Gear' Hill (or click here).
If anyone else out there has some advice for Marilyn, or experience with a B1 boot - then drop us a line and we'll publish it here.
A. Please can someone tell me which crampons would be suitable for Scarpa New Trek GTX Walking Boot, crampon rating B0, Thanks
