Fuel for Walking Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk?
Q. Fuel for stoves in UK
I'm flying to Manchester and then going by train to St. Bees to do the Coast to Coast walk.
I have two MSR stoves, a Pocket Rocket, which takes isopropane in canisters, and a more general stove which uses white gas.
I prefer the pocket rocket.
(a) where can I get fuel on the way to St. Bees?
(b) which fuel is going to be easier to get?
Thank you

A. Kirkby Stephen [nearly half-way] is quite a large town with lots of outdoor shops so you might be able to buy some [fuel] there.

A. You can get fuel in Manchester. Not sure what you mean by white gas - but the Pocket Rocket is common in England. All the outdoor shops (Ellis Brigham, Blacks, Northface, Karrimor) are located close together on Deansgate - an easy 20 minute walk from Manchester Victoria Railway Station. Try Ellis Brigham first though because they sell the Pocket Rocket camping stove so probably stock the fuel as well.
As for the walk itself - take the lightest stove you have (Pocket Rocket?) and all the fuel you will need because it will be hard to come by en-route - particularly during the 2nd week.
Hope this helps

A. Hi, looks like Millet in Whitehaven also sells gas cannisters, coming from Manchester Airport by train via Carlisle, Whitehaven is the last stop before arriving at St Bees, so I plan to make a stop in Whitehaven en take a train later to St Bees. Cheers, Han
