Broken Ankles
Q. I recently bought a pair of Raichle mountain GTX boots.
I thought they were the best I have ever had until I was descending Y Garn in snowdonia and had the misfortune to have the ground under me move rapidly downhill leaving me to break my leg /ankle just on the joint.
Is there anything I could have done to avoid this?
Should my boots have prevented this mishap?
Please advise

A. Sorry to hear about your mishap - everyone at go4awalk.com wishes you a swift recovery.
Your experience just goes to show how easy it is to have an accident when walking in the high mountains and how one should exercise due care at all times.
Walking boots are not designed to prevent ankle injuries such as the one you describe. They would have to be a great deal more robust - like a ski boot - and this would make walking in them virtually impossible.
Hope this helps
