Walking the Chehire Canal Ring
Q. Hello, please can you advise if you have any details for walking the Chehire canal ring? Regards
Vivien Bell,
A. The Cheshire Ring Canal is a circular route along 6 canals to the South of Manchester. The Cheshire Ring is 97 miles long and has 92 locks. The 6 canals that form The Cheshire Ring are:
- The Macclesfield Canal
- The Upper and Lower Peak Forest Canals
- The Rochdale Canal
- The Ashton Canal
- The Bridgewater Canal and
- part of the Trent and Mersey Canal
The whole walk is predominantly in the county of Cheshire (hence the name) but also goes directly through the City Centre of Manchester and enters the Peak District National Park near Whaley Bridge.
Hope this helps . . .
