Do I need Walking and Hiking Poles in The Yorkshire Dales
Q. I am hiking in Yorkshire Dales in June and would like to know if walking and hiking poles are required? I use walking and hiking poles at home when hiking but find them difficult to pack.

A. I find that using poles saves a lot of wear and tear on my knees and also gives my arms a bit of a workout. I always use them whenever I go walking. I also used to have trouble packing them in a rucksack until I found a set of 4-section poles that pack a few inches shorter. I am able to fit these down the middle of my rucksack without any problems. It's worth having a look around (I got mine from eBay).

A. If you are used to walking and hiking with poles then you should continue to do so. You do not say which walks you are planning to do in The Yorkshire Dales National Park but you will find all kinds of terrain from gentle riverside strolls to high mountain adventures.
If you do not want to pack your own poles and bring them with you, The Yorkshire Dales has lots of high quality outdoor gear shops that can provide you with walking and hiking poles to suit your requirements.

Hope this helps . . .
