Why do my feet get wet?
Q. I have a fairly good pair of leather walking boots but however much I apply polish, wax or seal them I always get wet feet when I have been walking in grass for a while.
What do you all do when you need to make your boots last for a week without the facility to dry them out? Am I doing something wrong?
Gordon Francis, Taunton
A. When walking in long grass, water can collect on your trousers and run down into your walking boots. You do not need much dampness in your boots for them to become uncomfortable. A pair of good quality gaiters would help minimise the problem.
However, it is much more likely that your 'fairly good' walking boots have lost there waterproofness and need replacing.
