The Central Cairngorms area of Scottish Region 8: The Cairngorm Mountains region is the area enclosed by an imaginary line connecting:
- Coylumbridge to Nethy Bridge via the River Spey to the North West
- Nethy Bridge to Linn of Dee via the River Nethy, Allt Bheadhair, Glasath, Lochan a' Bhainne, Allt an t-Seallaidh, Lairig an Laoigh, Coire Etchachan Burn, Glen Derry, Derry Lodge and Lui Water to the East
- Linn of Dee to Geldie Burn via the River Dee and White Bridge to the South
- Geldie Burn to Coylumbridge via Glen Dee, Corrour Bothy, Pools of Dee, Lairig Ghru, Allt Druidh and Am Beanaich to the West
If you count only the Marilyns there are 6 tops to climb, bag & conquer and the highest point is Ben Macdui (Beinn MacDuibh) at 1,309m (4,296ft).
