Refuelling during the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge walk?
Q. Can anyone who has walked the Yorkshire Three Peaks assist. I am walking it and want to know if i will be able to obtain fresh water anywhere en-route. I will be carrying a Camelback with energy drink from the start, but i am hoping that I can carry spare powder for mixing, rather than lugging gallons of fluids from the onset.
Thanks
Steve Little, Harlow
A. There is a potential watering hole between each of the hills on the three peaks, though it depends on the time of day/year you hit them. if you are doing it the traditional anti-clockwise route, the first is between Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside, at Ribblehead. The Station Inn pub. Of course, you may hit this point before it has opened, so it may not be an option. Though there is also a burger van nearby that sells bottles of water quite reasonably. Between Whenside and Ingleborough there is a well signed cafe at Philpin Farm that opens from the end of April until October which is an excellent place to re-fill your bladder. Last time I walked the Y3P I used around three litres of water. I was 105Kg at the time, male, and I walked it in under nine hours on a fairly sunny day. I'd suggest taking a 2l bladder, and refilling at Philpin Barn is a reasonable strategy. They are a business and reserve their toilet, which has fresh cold drinking water for customers, so you should buy something, but you'll probably be needing a Snickers about this point of the journey.

A. Full details of refreshment points are included on the ny101 The Yorkshire Three Peaks from Horton in Ribblesdale walk route description.
This will definitely help!
