This walk enters the Merrivale Army Firing Range.Information on firing times can be obtained by calling 01837 52939. In any event, do not enter the range when red flags are flying.
A blowing house was a building used for smelting tin in the early 14th century. They are thought to have contained a furnace and a pair of bellows and were powered by a water wheel fed from a nearby river. Over 40 blowing houses have been identified on Dartmoor alone.
The odd shaped lumps of rock strewn across so many of the South West's tors are collectively known as 'clitter'.
