Points of Interest/Notes on this walk:

This walk enters the Warcop Army Training Area. For safety reasons, public access is restricted to public rights of way during non-firing days only. Access is only permitted during the Christmas period and approximately 12 other weekends per year, which are publicly notified 12 months in advance. Information about these weekends can be obtained by calling 0800 783 5181 or visiting Warcop MoD Firing Range Access Dates. The website is best for long-range planning, while the phone number gives more up-to-date information for the next couple of weeks or so.

Mickle Fell is also known as an English Nuttall (58th highest in England, 107th highest in England & Wales) and an English Marilyn (17th highest in England, 414th highest in the UK).

The summit of Mickle Fell is marked by a huge cairn. Mickle Fell's Ordnance Survey Trig Point lies some 2.2km ENE of the summit. Mickle Fell is the highest point in the county of County Durham.

Completing this walk will also take you to the top of Little Fell (Burton Fell) at 748m (2455ft). Little Fell (Burton Fell) is classified as an English Mountain (Hewitt) (69th highest in England, 122nd highest in England & Wales)

Little Fell (Burton Fell) is also known as an English Nuttall (85th highest in England, 149th highest in England & Wales). The summit of Little Fell (Burton Fell) is marked by a cairn 650m NW of an Ordnance Survey Trig Point.

You will also reach the summit of Murton Fell at 673m (2210ft). Murton Fell is classified as an English Mountain (Hewitt) (122nd highest in England, 206th highest in England & Wales)

Murton Fell is also known as an English Nuttall (163rd highest in England, 276th highest in England & Wales).
