In-use Test:
The Teva Itundas are more sandal-shoes than straight sandals and have a slightly 'quirky' - but I thought quite attractive - look.
The upper is made of leather and polyester mesh and the sole/heel sections have small drain holes that really do get rid of water very quickly.
The foot bed is nicely padded and so is very comfortable. As far as breathability is concerned, I did find that after walking for an hour or so there was some build up of perspiration on the footbed. However, the breathability of the uppers was fine. All the components of the uppers did seem to dry very quickly after rain or after splashing through water so I didn't experience any blistering.
Getting the Itundas on and off is really quick and simple - there is a simple fastening on the top. There are options for adjusting the fit across the front of the foot and at the ankle - but not around the heel. I was wearing the same size as my normal shoe size (40). The width was fine although I did feel that my toes were a little too close to the front and I could perhaps have done with some extra length.
I've used the Itunda primarily for walking on asphalt, grass and some low level but slightly rockier paths. They are certainly very comfortable. I thought the traction was quite good and there is a certain amount of stiffness in the soles. The impact absorption was quite impressive for this type of footwear, and I definitely appreciated the toe protection. The main problem I had in walking for extended periods of time was that there is no arch support. (I do wear orthotics and, in fact, did find that the Itundas are sufficiently shoe-like to allow me to use them.)
The sturdy looking outer sole plus rubberised bumper around the sole suggests that the Itunda-s will be quite durable.
Whilst not the cheapest sandles out there, the Teva Itundas are a flexible, attractive looking sandal that provides more protection than is normally available in this type of footwear. So they are a great option for low level summer walking over softer ground - particularly if you're likely to encounter much water. They are also handy to have with you in your back pack for river crossings etc.
Do check sizing.
