Snowdon Walking Routes in May
Q. I am planning a works walk up snowden [sic] for approx 6 to 8 people in May involving a Friday night stay over in a bunkhouse for one night.
- What are the normal easy/steady routes up I have heard of a goat track?
- Is there a bunkhouse close to this route with a pub close by for USE after the adventure?
Thank you
Neal Hurst, Leicester
A. Funny you should ask about the goat track because that's just what I was looking up. I remember climbing to the top of Snowdon via the goat track a long time (more than 50 years) ago. Was there indeed a goat track then, or have I imagined it?

A. Actually I think you mean the PYG Track - not the goat track. See this link Climbing Snowdon and Climbing Snowdon in August for more information about routes up Snowdon, some photos from the mountain and what to to take and wear.
Hope this helps

A. I think the Pyg track is what you may have heard of.
It starts off at the Pen-y-Pass car park which is opposite the Pen-y-Pass youth hostel - there's the bunkhouse you were talking about.
Not sure it's an easy route though if you've never been before.
The Miners' track also leads from the same car park.
For an easier route, close accomodation and pubs best to go to Llanberis, stay in a B & B and take the Llanberis path -
NB. These walks detail an alternative (longer) route back down which visit neighbouring mountain tops - but you can easily retrace your upward route back down if you prefer.
It's longer than the other 2 but almost a manicured path in comparison.
Won't get lost and plenty of pubs when you get back down.
Hope that helps
