The Yorshire 3 Peaks Challenge Walk in May
Q. Three of us would like to attempt the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge next year around April/May time, would this be the best time of year to attempt it and do we have to register our attempt with anyone?
Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, your website is fantastic, I have found the maps provided extremely useful along with the information.

A. The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge (Walk ny101) is an unofficial 23.5 mile circular route in The Yorkshire Dales National Park that starts and finishes at the Tourist Information Centre in Horton in Ribblesdale - which just so happens to be the Pen-y-ghent Cafe as well.
At 23.5 miles it is a very long walk (with three big ascents) and you will need plenty of daylight. So, the best time to do it is on a long dry day that is not too hot - with May and particularly late June often providing the best conditions.
You do not have to register - though it might be worth letting someone know about your intentions so they can alert the rescue services should you fail to arrive back when expected.
The Pen-y-ghent cafe does operate an antique clock card machine that will record you start and finish time - see this link for full details.
Hope this helps
