Walking The Yorkshire Three Peaks during The Annual Fell Race

Hi, Myself and a large group of friends are looking to walk The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge Walk on the 28 April 2012 - most of us having done it before. It is to be a charity walk (as many are) and the date is the only one where everybody is available. However, this also happens to be the day of the Annual Three Peaks Race. Is it still possible to walk on race day? There have been suggestions that the route is only open to race participants. We appreciate that the route would be very busy on the day but don't really want to change our date as it would mean many people having to drop out. Any advice welcomed. Thanks
