Do We Need A Guide To Climb Ben Nevis With Us?

Hi there

Me and my friend are climbing Ben Nevis in June for the NSPCC. We have never climbed before so we know that some training is required. I am curious though regarding tour guides. Are we able to just turn up and walk up ourselves or do we need to arrange to go up in a party for safety reasons? Forgive my ignorance but this is a first for me so any replies to this will be greatly appreciated.
