Answer a walking and hiking question

Got an answer to the following Walking/Hiking question?

Using a CB Radio to contact the Mountain Resue Service

As an ex soldier, my friends and I regularly take part in the odd Mountain adventure, Snowdon, Black Mountains etc.

We are of various ability and always take extra clothing, water, rations, emergency storm shelters etc.

I was wondering if we ever actually got in to difficulty and couldn't get a mobile signal, could I contact the mountain rescue with a hand held CB radio or a marine VHF radio?

Is there any hand-held or portable radios that are recommended for climbers/ ramblers?

Even if it's just to say that the weather has turned but we are OK and bedded in for the night?
