Walk Grades & Grading System
Our walk grade system is a guide to the type of walk you can expect.
It is based on a calculation made from the distance covered and the ascent made - along with the need to stop occasionally to look at the scenery (and take a breather!).
We then convert this calculation into a grade from 1 to 9.

Below is a rough guide to what each grade means - but it is only a guide! You may have different ideas. However, since this grade system is consistent on every go4awalk.com walk, you can adjust each walk grade to suit your own abilities.
Grade | Description |
A gentle stroll, 5 miles or less on flat terrain. | |
A pleasant afternoon walk over 5 miles | |
Gentle ascents and descents, 5 miles or longer | |
Harder ascents up to 1000ft, 5 miles or longer | |
4 to 6 hour walk in the Derbyshire Peaks | |
Single Lake District Summit | |
A couple of Lake District Summits/ Single Scottish Summit | |
Multiple Lake District Summits/ Couple of Scottish Summits | |
Full Day Hike in the High Mountains/ Multiple Scottish Summits | |
