What are the nearest Hill walks to Cambridge
Q. I am a senior citizen climbing Kilimanjaro in March and need to do as much hill walking (mountain climbing!) as I can before then. The Cambridge area is so flat, where are the nearest hills that I can drive to, walk for up to 6 hours in daylight and drive home in a day?
Brenda Evans, Cambridge
A. You can get to some very nice walks in the Peak District with a 2-2.5 hour drive. Walks around Dovedale, Grindon, and the roaches are all beautiful and can be plotted to get many 100s of metres of ascent of varying steepness. Thorpe cloud is great for the climb and the view. Areas on the East of the Peak District are also reachable in the time if they are close to the A1, and if you don't mind the longer drive, some of the Yorkshire dales is just about doable on a (long) day trip.

A. There are some reasonable hill walks in The Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire.

The nearest mountains (over 2000ft) to Cambridge are probably the Black Mountains Area of The Brecon Beacons in South Wales but you are unlikely to get there and back in a day. Just in case though - see Walk route maps in The Black Mountains area of The Brecon Beacons
Hope this helps . . .
