Walking the Ennerdale Horseshoe
Q. Has anyone done the Ennerdale Horseshoe and, if so, how long did it take?
Hugh Martin, Henfield
A. Thanks, although this is somewhat longer than Naismith's rule would suggest. Also the route on this website doesn't take the shortest line between Kirk Fell and Pillar. However, if I do it, I will let you know how long it took.
Hugh Martin, Henfield
A. The Ennerdale Horseshoe in the Western Lake District is a testing route taking in the peaks of Red Pike (Buttermere), High Stile, High Crag (Buttermere), Seat, Hay Stacks, Great Round How, Brandreth, Green Gable, Great Gable, Kirk Fell and Pillar.
This Grade 9 walk is 30.00km (18.75 miles) long and has 2408m (7309ft) of ascent. A realistic time for completion by a fit walker in good conditions would be around 14.75hrs.
For full details, a route map and GPS Waypoints see Walk c120 The Ennerdale Horseshoe
Hope this helps and good luck . . . Let us know how you get on.
