Walking Pen-y-Ghent to practice for Ben Nevis
Q. Hi,
Some colleagues are going up Ben Nevis in august. I'm looking for somewhere in the Yorkshire area that may be similar, not in scale but in terrain.
I've thought about Pen y Ghent / Plover Hill from Horton in Ribblesdale (Walk ny158 Pen-y-ghent and Plover Hill from Horton in Ribblesdale). Possibly ingleborough from Clapham (Walk ny119 Ingleborough from Clapham).
I have to confess I've never been up Ben Nevis so any ideas appreciated.
Cheers

A. Hi Thanks for the advice. Will be giving this route a go on sunday. Many thanks Ian

A. Ian, I'd go for Ingleborough not Pen y Ghent but perhaps from Ingleton via Crina Bottom (Walk ny130 Ingleborough and Raven Scar from The Old Hill Inn as far as Ingleborough summit) returning across the nature reserve to Ingleton via the waterfalls (Walk ny154 Ingleborough and the Ingleton Waterfalls from Ingleton) to give you a variety of terrain. Ingleton also tends not to get overrun with 3 peakers as Horton in Ribblesdale does in summer.
