3 Peaks - How Long To Do Ben Nevis?
Q. Hi. I've downloaded your Ben Nevis from Achintee route (h100) and note that the estimated time is 8.5 hrs. I've done my own routecard using 4km/hr plus 1 min per 10m ascent, and with a few small rest stops have got it down to about 7 hrs. I often see the time for Ben Nevis on the 3 Peaks quoted as 5 hrs (same for Scafell Pike), but can't work out how this can be? Can anybody tell me from their own experience what is an appropriate 'average' time for Ben Nevis when walking in a group of nine. Thanks.

A. It obviously depends on how fit you are, but we did the Ben in around 5 hours on the Three Peaks a few years ago. The conditions were perfect and we were a group of runners, although we didn't run any part of the ascent or descent. 6 hours would be a good time but, if you take more than 7, I think it would be difficult to complete the challenge within 24 hours.
