Scafell or Similar
Q. I recently walked up Snowdon for the 2nd time via the Pyg Track and the people I went with would like to now walk up Scafell.
I mention getting up Snowdon as I am someone who is badly frightened of heights, however found Snowdon fine as at no point on the walk could I see the whole drop, the path was wide and well established and there was always a bit of rock to cling to on at least one side.
Can you tell me if Scafell is the same? Or if not - do you have any other suggestions for walking in the Lake District that would satisfy my colleagues thirst for adventure and wouldn't severely traumatise me? (I seriously would need to be rescued as once frightened I can't cope.)
Cindy Mellor, London
A. You probably mean Scafell Pike not Sca Fell. Though near to Scafell Pike, Sca Fell is England's 2nd highest mountain. (Scafell Pike is England's highest mountain). You do not want to find yourself stood on top of the wrong one!
For walks up Scafell Pike see Walk Scafell Pike
For walks up Sca fell see Walk Sca Fell
All these routes are pretty straight forward in good weather providing you are appropriately equipped and possess an appropriate level of fitness.
Hope this helps
