Beenkeragh Ridge
Q. Hi, has anyone done the Beenkeragh Ridge (Carrauntoohil, Macgillycuddy Reeks, Ireland) and how does it compare in length, scrambling difficulty, exposure to, say, the Carn Mor Dearg arete, Striding Edge and Crib Goch?
Heather Perrin, Carlisle
A. I did the Horseshoe Caher, Carountoohil and Beekeragh in March 1998. Found the ridge not to difficult, on a par with Striding edge. The full walk known as the Coomloughra Horseshoe took about 6 hours in excellent weather, got sunburnt. I was 50ish at the time and walked unaccompanied.
